Pietro Mascagni: A Discography
I have always believed that there is far more to Mascagni than meets the eye or ear, and most of my adult life seems to have been spent trying to persuade others to agree with me!
My first attempt at a Pietro Mascagni discography was published by Greenwood Press in 2000 and contained details on over 2,500 recordings. For this new discography, the content has been fully revised and expanded, with 4,255 entries spread across 331 pages.
Cavalleria rusticana will always be Mascagni’s most frequently performed and recorded work, but in recent years there has been a welcome increase in performances of his other operas such as L’amico Fritz, Isabeau, Guglielmo Ratcliff, Amica, Zanetto, Le maschere, Iris, Silvano, Parisina, and Il piccolo Marat.
I am delighted to offer a pdf of this discography free of charge to everyone who shares my enthusiasm for the maestro, but especially to those who have yet to be convinced of his genius!
